All McLeod windows and doors are guaranteed against defects in materials and workmanship by one of the best warranties in the industry.

McLeod Windows Original Consumer Warranty

A) General:

McLeod Windows and its' authorized dealers/distributors, subject to the conditions, exclusions and limitations that follow, warrants to the original purchaser/homeowner of McLeod manufactured products to be free from defects in materials and workmanship. "Original Consumers" are the original purchaser of the product and the owner of the building in which the product is installed. For single family stand alone residences , the warranty contained in clause 1)(1.1)(i) for insulated glass units, is transferable to the new owner provided such owner is living in the residence. Only Mcleod Windows has the authority to extend or alter any of the provisions in these warranties. Any attempt by dealers, sales representatives or distributors to alter these warranties will not legally bind Mcleod windows to such alterations.

B) Warranties:

Mcleod windows warrants that products manufactured by Mcleod windows will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of two years from the date the product was manufactured. Mcleod windows considers its' products to be of the highest quality available and to be a superior product for exterior usage and provides further warranties to the following principal components.

1) Insulating Glass:

1.1) McLeod's warrants all insulating glass units (subject to the exclusions described following) against failure of the air seal due to defects in material or workmanship with a limited warranty pro-rated over (20) years from the date of manufacture. McLeod's obligations under this warranty may be limited to a credit towards the purchase of a replacement glass such credit to be pro-rated in agreement with the following.

(i) Where the claim is made within 10 years from the date of manufacture, a credit of 100% of the present Mcleod windows selling price of the replacement unit will be provided

(ii) Where the claim is made between 11 and 15 years from the date of manufacture, a credit of 50% of the present Mcleod windows selling price of the replacement unit will be provided.

(iii) Where the claim is made between 16 and 20 years from the date of manufacture, a credit of 25% of the present Mcleod Windows windows selling price of the replacement unit will be provided.

1.2) No sealed unit warranty will be provided for the following:

  • Localized application of heat, which can cause excessive temperature differentials over the glass surface.
  • Venetian blinds installed less than 2" (5cm) from the glass surface.
  • Any unit retrofitted with a secondary film.
  • Glass misused, abused, or damaged by vandals or acts of God.
  • Cracked or shattered glass by any cause.
  • Obstruction or alteration to factory engineered processes or materials.
  • Failure of insulated glass units due to obstruction of engineered drain holes by build up of foreign debris or misapplied finishes.
  • Insulated glass units that are installed higher than 5000 feet above sea level unless the insulated glass units were ordered and supplied with capillary tubes.
  • Insulated glass units not supplied by Mcleod Windows.
  • Where imperfections are acceptable relative to published Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) specifications.
  • This warranty does not cover glass breakage or slight glass curvature; minor scratches or other imperfections in the glass that do not impair structural integrity or significantly obscure normal vision.

1.3) Decorative doorlite glass manufactured by third party specialty producers will be subject to the warranty offered by those producers.

2) White Vinyl (PVC) Extrusions

Mcleod windows provides a limited warranty of (25) years from the date of manufacture against blistering, flaking and chipping. This warranty does not cover fading or slight colour variations due to exposure to sunlight, air pollutants and certain atmospheric conditions.

3) Painted Finish on Metal Clad

Mcleod windows provides a limited warranty of (10) years from the date of manufacture against blistering, cracking, flaking and chipping. This warranty does not cover fading or slight colour variations due to exposure to sunlight, air pollutants and certain atmospheric conditions.

4) Painted Finish on Vinyl (PVC)

Mcleod windows provides a limited warranty of (7) years from the date of manufacture against blistering, cracking, flaking and chipping. This warranty does not cover fading or slight colour variations due to exposure to sunlight, air pollutants and certain atmospheric conditions.

5) Steel/Fiberglass Insulated Doors

Mcleod windows provides a limited warranty for (5) years from the date of manufacture against warpage exceeding 5/16" (8mm) and delaminating of the exterior steel or fiberglass skin. Mcleod windows does not warranty the performance of the factory primer coat on the steel door. Failure to paint the door on all surfaces within (30) days of installation will void the warranty.

6) Hardware

McLeod's roto gear and hinge supplier for windows, Truth Inc. provides a limited lifetime warranty against defects in material and workmanship. This warranty is limited to (10) years from the date of manufacturing.

C) Warranty Solutions:

A manufactured product or component of a manufactured product by Mcleod windows of which a warranty claim is made as provided in this document, solutions for the original consumer are limited to the following, at Mcleod windows sole discretion.

a) Repairing the defective product or component, of which the first (2) years of the warranty only, Mcleod windows will provide transportation and labor for the repair to the product or component only. This warranty does not cover removal, shipping, painting, refinishing, restoration or inconvenience and repair will be to the original state of the product. Notwithstanding, Mcleod windows reserves the right to limit transportation and labor costs where the repair is located more than (100) Km from the original point of manufacturing or;

b) Replacement of the defective product or component, of which the first (2) years of the warranty only, Mcleod windows will provide transportation and labor for the installation of the product or component being replaced. This warranty does not cover removal, shipping, painting, refinishing, restoration or inconvenience and repair will be to the original state of the product. Notwithstanding, Mcleod windows reserves the right to limit transportation and labor costs where the repair is located more than (100) Km from the original point of manufacturing or;

c) Refund the original purchase price of the product or component or;

d) For the prorated glass warranty, McLeod's obligations under this warranty may be limited to a credit towards the purchase of a replacement sealed unit glass such credit to be pro-rated in agreement with the following.

(i) Where the claim is made within 10 years from the date of manufacture, a credit of 100% of the present Mcleod windows selling price of the replacement unit will be provided.

(ii) Where the claim is made between 11 and 15 years from the date of manufacture, a credit of 50% of the present Mcleod windows selling price of the replacement unit will be provided.

(iii) Where the claim is made between 16 and 20 years from the date of manufacture, a credit of 25% of the present Mcleod windows selling price of the replacement unit will be provided

e) For products installed outside of Canada the warranty is restricted to the supply only of the defective product or component to the original Canadian point of purchase and there is no coverage for installation labor, removal, shipping, refinishing, restoration and consequential or incidental indirect losses.

7) Exclusions, Restriction and Limitations on Liability

a) Products which are misused, abused, damaged by vandals, acts of God, acts of nature or any other cause beyond Mcleod windows control.

b) Improper handling or installation where windows and doors are not installed plumb, square and shimmed.

c) Mcleod windows will not provide warranty for products that have not been paid for in full.

d) Installation of units in a sloped or non-vertical position, faulty construction or design.

e) Glass imperfections that are acceptable in accordance to published Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB)

f) Exposure to sunlight, air pollutants and normal atmospheric conditions, which may cause vinyl to gradually fade, chalk or accumulate surface dirt. These are normal occurrences.

g) Product damaged in transit after leaving Mcleod windows plant or truck.

h) Mcleod windows accepts no liability for factory seconds or clearance products, identified as such at time of sale.

i) The warranties expressed and contained in this document establish the maxim liability that Mcleod windows has for its' products. All exclusions and limitations referred to apply in all situations and conditions.

8) Warranty Claim and Effective Date

To make a claim:

a) Contact the dealer, builder, renovator or distributor that sold you the Mcleod product. If no action has been taken, contact Mcleod windows.

b) Provide as much detail as possible; Mcleod windows will contact you to advise what action it will take. Mcleod windows reserves the right to charge a fee to cover expenses for on site inspections. This charge will be refunded if the claim is covered by Mcleod windows.

c) This warranty applies to products manufactured by Mcleod windows from and including April 1, 2006. Any warranties previously published before this date are null and void
