Wood Composite Door Frames

MikronWood Composite Door Systems Are Better Than Wood.

MikronWood Type Examples

Using various proprietary ingredients, MikronWood™ features the best characteristics of wood and vinyl, making it ideal for door and building product applications.

  • MikronWood will not absorb moisture, resulting in no rot and lasting durability.
  • Many MikronWood products feature SuperCapSR™ surface technology - an integral extruded surface layer that provides durable weatherability.
  • MikronWood composite is an excellent insulator with lower heat transfer values than wood, fiberglass, rigid PVC and aluminum.
  • MikronWood remains stable in higher heat environments.
  • MikronWood Doors offer a choice of four, real wood interior veneer finishes: Ponderosa Pine, Maple, Oak, and Cherry.
  • Available with SuperCapSR Exterior Color Technology: Architectural Bronze, Hunter Green, Adobe and Brick Red.
  • Also available in Exterior Solar Reflective Coatings: Architectural Bronze, Hunter Green, Sierra, Desert Sand and Brick Red.

MikronWood Composite Doors are available in a wide range of styles, including:

  • Multi-panel Sliding Patio Door
  • Multi-panel In-swing Patio door

MikronWood Doors are made with a patent-pending solid core composite fused with an exclusive durable SuperCap finish. Made from a blend of special thermoplastic alloy resins, products meet or exceed AAMA tests for strength, stiffness, durability, and weathering. Mikron's patent-pending material has excellent insulating properties - with lower heat-transfer values than wood, rigid, hollow vinyl and fiberglass. And unlike wood, the material is impervious to moisture and insects so it won't rot or decay.

MikronWood Doors are designed to provide a smooth, satin finish indicative of fine painted woodwork. The material mills like real wood for precise wood-like joinery - in fact, Mikron also offers profiles to fabricate interior window blinds. It's also weld-able - unlike fiberglass that requires mechanical fasteners. The MikronWood line offers four species of real wood interior veneers and is backed by a 20 year warranty. This enables our customers to offer a wide variety of door styles in exterior colors that upscale homeowners want - all with the beauty of real wood and the low maintenance of composite.

Natural Beauty. Supernatural Performance.

Next Generation Material Technology

MikronWood Milling Process

MikronWood™ is a revolutionary new material that provides the beauty of wood with the weather-able, no-maintenance advantages of a composite. The material is a blend of specialty polymer resins or "Thermoplastic Alloy", which is a vinyl-based combination of both PVC & Acrylic resins for excellent durability. This unique blend of resins can't absorb moisture so it provides a very stable, rot and insect-proof material. To provide consistent processing without organic variation, the material does not contain any wood fiber content. The material delivers dimensional stability and strength that is ideal for door products used in high-heat, high humidity southern climates as well as for cold northern climates.

Next Generation Material Technology

Exclusive SuperCap™ Surface Technology

SuperCap provides a permanent pre-finished surface that performs in the harshest of weather conditions. This pre-finished solution saves time and cost for Builders and provides a lifetime of no-maintenance benefits for Homeowners. This tough, enhanced capped surface protects against yellowing from Ultraviolet light exposure, erosion, chalking and cracking to keep doors looking good over time. The cap brings protective ingredients to the profile surface, where they provide superior weathering performance. Also, the SuperCap surface layer is integral and fusion-bonded into the profile. It's typically 400% thicker than ordinary painted coatings, to provide superior scratch resistance.

Superior Performance Versus Wood and Fiberglass

MikronWood K-Value Graph

MikronWood's no-rot solid core offers better thermal performance than wood, fiberglass, and hollow PVC. In fact, MikronWood's "K-Value," a measure of thermal conductivity, is lower than any frame material used today. Data provided by the National Fenestration Rating Council and independent labs shows lower K-values than Pine, hollow PVC and fiberglass. Specifically, MikronWood has a K-Value that is 24% lower than Pine, 37% lower than hollow PVC and 54% lower than fiberglass. As a more energy-efficient material, with a long lasting, durable life cycle, MikronWood truly is a "green" material.

Because of it's solid-core, cellular structure, MikronWood saws and mills vary similar to wood making it ideal for fabrication into doors using traditional wood joinery and equipment. Compared to fiberglass, MikronWood joints are weldable and more weather-able which will help avoid failures and costly callbacks. Unlike fiberglass, MikronWood does not require pre-drilling for fabrication or installation. And because it's a thermoplastic polymer-based material, joints can be welded and frames can be bent to fabricate specialty shapes.

SRC Process

The Beauty of Real Wood Inside

MikronWood profiles are available with several real wood interior surface veneers. Options include Ponderosa Pine, Cherry, Maple, and Red Oak. Other species are available via special order. These veneers are permanently bonded to the profile substrate through a unique Hot-Melt system that applies an industrial-grade adhesive to the profile.

Solar Reflective Coatings

MikronWood profiles are available with Mikron's Solar Reflective Coatings, which are formulated especially for composite lineal adhesion and exterior weathering durability. SRC uses a unique formulation to reflect solar radiation away from the surface before it can build up excessive heat. Before the coating is applied, profiles are cleaned using a special multi-stage spray chamber and cleaning agent. Special acrylic and polyurethane resins and processed pigments are catalyzed and "set" with heat to create a tough, durable finish that lasts. SRC colors include Architectural Bronze, Hunter Green, Desert Sand, Sierra, Black, Adobe and Brick Red.

GreenSmart™

MikronWood doors can help conserve energy by combining this more thermally-efficient composite frame material with high-performance glazing units. These products can achieve U-Factors less than 0.30.

Compared to wood doors, composite doors resist rot and are proven to last longer in moisture and mildew prone climates. Composite doors have a long lifespan and a strong overall "life cycle" value. A longer product lifespan limits post-consumer waste as they can last for decades.

Because there is no wood material content, MikronWood composite doors avoid the depletion of wood resources. And, cellular vinyl composites have excellent fire performance. According to the Vinyl Institute, "vinyl's chemical makeup makes it inherently flame resistant and it ceases to burn after the flame source is removed."

Process generated composite material is recyclable. In fact, virtually all of the scrap generated in the MikronWood composite extrusion process is used in future polymer-based products.
